Air Baltic Terminal: A Harmonious Blend of Light and Functionality

Inspired by Riga’s Unique Light, Designed for Seamless Travel

Our design for the new airBaltic terminal in Riga, Latvia, draws inspiration from the region's unique relationship with natural light—radiant during summer, yet rare and cherished in winter. The sleek, two-pronged pier design emphasizes visual connectivity and ease of navigation, allowing travelers to intuitively move through ticketing, security, and boarding gates. This dynamic yet efficient terminal layout not only enhances the traveler experience but also embodies the atmospheric quality of light that defines the region year-round.

Air Baltic Terminal

Our design for the new airBaltic terminal is inspired by the dramatic contextual relationship between Riga, Latvia and the atmospheric quality of light in this region of the world. Ever present during the summer months, yet so very rare and special during the winter months, the ambiance of natural light and our relationship to it will energize our design for the new terminal year-round.

We first sculpted a sleek profile for the terminal building envelope. Dynamic yet efficient, the simple, two-pronged pier solution emphasizes visual connectivity throughout the terminal to communicate optimal comprehensibility and logic to the airBaltic traveler. With all functional program remaining clearly in view, travelers will easily navigate through the concourse to ticketing, and then on to security and the gates beyond.
